This feels kinda wierd because this is the first blog that I have ever written outside of my own computer (Im at the college's computer lab in between classes). Yesterday we finally got my office mostly setup and I moved in! I have my own desk that is actually an antique, a dell computer, and a 17" flat screen monitor. The only thing left is that all the network equipment like the routers and hubs are in the corner on shelves so they said they were going to move it when ever we go to totally wireless internet. But what does suck is that I had a meeting scheduled with one of the local car dealerships in regards of a scanning contract but unfortunately the lady that I was supposed to meet with ended up not being able to meet and rescheduled for the seventh of November. I was kinda disapointed because it was going to be a huge contract and I kinda need the money that would have been generated from it. On the bright side of things though, I do have a meeting with a local attorney today but it is probably going to be a storage client and not a scanning one. Also, yesterday the secretary at our office got sick and went home and so the office manager and I had to fill in her position. That was really a mess. In a way it gave me a new perspective because she fufills numerous roles in our office and generates quite a bit of revenue because of the requests of customers. Before, I had always understood how a business works in general. Everyone is expendable and no one makes everything happen. Each person in there acts like seperate body parts all performing different functions, but working together at the same time to produce a large amount of productivity.
I also came to another realization that was quite funny. The office manager, who in a way is a little bit bossie, is not liked by many people. Don't get me wrong, she is supposed to be the office manager and that requires giving people commands and tasks to do. In fact, if it weren't for her then we would probably be running around like crazy. But, many of the people don't like her but I think because both of us are the only "college educated" people in there, we both click together really well and she likes to scratch my back and I scratch hers. Its really funny because she will come up to me and socialize but if anyone else does it besides the owner then she will tell them to get back to work. I do love my new job though. It may sound easy but it is very demanding and signing new contracts is a lot harder than what I thought it was going to be.
Today in accounting, we had a test in which I felt pretty good going into but she threw a curve ball at us and put in unextrodinary gains like donated capital from the government and I think most of the kids in there were stumped by it because we had actually never gone over the journalization process in class and how it was to be accounted for on the income statement. I know this blog has to be boring compared to most of the other ones but I needed to give an update on my job situations in my journal so I can reflect upon it at a later date. Have a good day.
Best Wishes, Joshua Price"
